Over 80% of Americans believe that trapping strays only to have them killed in shelters is inhumane. Feral cats live outdoors for two reasons - there is a food source (intentional or not) and there is shelter. They live healthy, natural lives and are mostly content in their outdoor home.
The traditional animal control approach of trapping and killing feral cats creates a vacuum. These practices may temporarily reduce the number of cats in a given area but the intact survivors continue to breed and other ferals move into the now-available terrority.

Many veterinations support annual booster vaccinations after the first year of a cat's life. However, a growing number believe that over vaccination and the exposure to adjuvants (compounds which enhance immunity in killed vaccines) may increase the risk of injection-site sarcomas. Some research has shown tht many vaccines provide lifelong immunity against specific diseases, but there is more to be learned. Your veterinarian is the best resource for information on this important topic. Be an informed pet owner and discuss the need for annual vaccinations during Kitty's annual exam.
